Karate 4 Excellence was founded by Chief Master Gerald Dunn, an esteemed martial artist with an 8th-degree Black Belt in Gshim Taekwondo. Chief Master Dunn's martial arts journey began in 1980, and his passion for martial arts led him to become a certified instructor in 1984. He opened our martial arts school in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1991. Chief Master Dunn's vision was simple yet powerful: to create a place where students could not only learn martial arts but also develop life skills, build confidence, and become the best versions of themselves.

Instructor/Owner Gerald Dunn
Chief Master Gerald Dunn, an accomplished martial artist with an 8th-degree Black Belt in Gshim Taekwondo, is the esteemed founder of Karate 4 Excellence. His journey in martial arts began in 1980, and his dedication led him to become a certified instructor in 1984. In 1991, he established his martial arts school in Poughkeepsie, NY, originally named "Karate for Kids."
Recognizing the importance of aligning the school's identity with its core values, Chief Master Gerald Dunn recently rebranded the school as "Karate 4 Excellence." This change accurately reflects the ideals and values deeply ingrained in the program he developed.
Chief Master Gerald Dunn's commitment to martial arts education extends beyond the dojo. He is also the author of "Heroes and Villains: The Impact of Role Models on Your Child... and What You Can Do!" This book highlights the influence of role models on children and provides insights into how parents and guardians can positively impact their child's development.
